Super Family
Holidays have become a huge tradition in the Arroyo House. Halloween is no exception. Every year, starting with this one, Halloween 2011, special care has been taken to find the perfect family costumes. Often these costumes are a mix of store-bought with a bit of "Mama Chickpea" flare. Super Family seemed perfect that year, despite finding no costume to fit Mom or Max. Both needed alteration and a little bit of originality, but I have never been afraid of such a task.
A couple years later, it would become more evident how important comic book superheroes would become to us. Perhaps, these costumes started it all? If not, my yearly Christmas gift of a handmade keepsake definitely added to the tally.
The Arroyo Superhero Family sketch hangs in our hallway of family photos, alongside Halloween 2011. Sketched with pigment marker on 11 x 14 inch paper, its black and white starkness patiently awaits coloring someday.
